185th Street Corridor Strategy Survey

Posted on to News

185th Street Multimodal Corridor Strategy

The City of Shoreline recently completed an initial outreach series to gather community and stakeholder input to help envision a corridor that will be safe for pedestrians and bicyclists; support bus and light rail transit service; address traffic flow; create gathering spaces; and encourage neighborhood businesses.

If you were unable to attend any of the events, you can view the open house presentation and displayed materials on the project webpage.

After reviewing information, please take the online survey which is linked on the project webpage. This survey will remain open through Sunday, November 25, 2018.

You may also use the hashtag #Shoreline185 to share your ideas and photos of the corridor or images of other places that include designs or features you would like to see reflected in the future 185th Street Corridor.

City Open House on Design of Shoreline Light Rail Stations

When
Wednesday, January 27,
Where
Shorewood High School — Commons and Theater
17300 Fremont Ave N
Shoreline, WA 98133

Come to City sponsored open house to provide your input on design of Shoreline light rail stations & facilities.

In 2016, Sound Transit will begin the final design phase for the Lynwood Link light rail extension that will run through Shoreline. As part of that effort, beginning in mid-2016, Sound Transit will hold three public open houses to gather input on the design of the stations and related facilities at N 145th and N 185th Streets.

To ensure the community’s interests are adequately represented during Sound Transit’s design phase, the City will develop a set of guiding principles to help guide the design of the light rail stations and facilities in Shoreline.

On January 27, the City will hold an open house to gather your input. The open house will provide:

  • Background for the process to date and how to participate moving forward

  • An opportunity to comment on Draft Guiding Principles for Light Rail Facility Design

  • Images of possible design elements for stations and garages

185th Street “Planned Action” Challenged in Court

Posted on to News (Updated )

The fight over the rezoning around the planned 185th Street light rail station is, apparently, not over.

On Monday, the Shoreline Preservation Society (SPS) filed a Complaint for Declaratory Judgment against the City of Shoreline. The action seeks to nullify the “planned action ordinance” (Ord. No. 707) which was adopted by the City Council on March 16. SPS has also filed a challenge to Ord. No 707 with the Central Puget Sound Growth Management Hearings Board.

For more information, including the legal documents that were filed with King County, or if you would like to support their efforts, see the SPS blog.

City Council to Vote on 185th Street Subarea March 16

Posted on to News (Updated )

Update

The Council adopted all three 185th Street rezoning ordinances at the March 16 meeting. You can read a bit more about the decision at the Shoreline Area News blog.

On February 23 the Shoreline City Council directed staff to make changes to the Planning Commission’s recommended zoning map for the 185th Street Station Subarea.

Council is scheduled to adopt the entire 185th Street Station Subarea Plan package, including the zoning map and development regulations, on March 16.

The current proposal has the rezone occurring in three phases:

  • Phase 1 occurring immediately upon adoption of the Subarea Plan and zoning map.

  • Phase 2 would begin in 2021

  • Phase 3 in 2033.

The best way to comment is to email Council at council@shorelinewa.gov in advance of the meeting. There will also be a limited amount of time for oral public comment at the Council meeting on March 16.

185th Subarea Zoning Still in Play

Posted on to News

Diane Hettrick has written a great article on the Shoreline Area News about the current state of the 185th Street Subarea zoning plans. Apparently much has changed recently, and there is growing momentum behind a plan to roll the zoning changes out in phases. (Read the article now.)

There is still time to provide your input, but final decisions will be made soon — the zoning changes are currently scheduled to be adopted onf February 23 — so speak up now!

A good place to make yourself heard would be at the city council meeting on February 9 where the 185th St zoning changes will be discussed. Also, you can call or email your city council members.

There is more information on the subarea plan on the city’s light rail planning page.
